Alberta lifts restrictions on temporary foreign workers

Alberta has lifted restrictions on hiring temporary foreign workers, a move it says is to help employers meet their pool needs.

As of May 1, 2022, the process has removed all occupations that were on a ‘refusal to process’ list, part of the fiefdom’s COVID-19 response to prioritize jobs for Albertans.

“This supports sectors of Alberta’s frugality that are passing labour dearths and floundering to fill available positions with Canadian workers,” a parochial statement said.

The rearmost Statistics Canada numbers show Alberta had further than job vacuities in February.

All pending operations, including those submitted prior to May 1, are subject to this change.

Previous to the change, the Alberta government had a “turndown to reuse” list containing occupations for which employers couldn’t submit operations to the Canadian government to hire temporary foreign workers.

The Canadian government operates the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and was refusing to reuse TFWP operations for these occupations on the advice of the Alberta government.

These were occupations that, according to the Alberta government, had labour overpluses. Alberta was seeking to encourage employers to hire jobless Albertans for these occupations rather.

Alberta has justified the loosening of its TFWP restrictions on the grounds it’ll support sectors of the parochial frugality that are scuffling with labour dearhs and are floundering to find Canadian workers.

Alberta says it’ll cover the impacts of this change and make adaptations as necessary to ensure the TFWP continues to profit from its frugality.

The purpose of the TFWP is to enable employers in Canada to hire foreign workers to fill job vacuities when they can’t find a Canadian citizen or endless occupant to do the job. An employer generally needs to submit a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) operation to the Canadian government.

The Canadian government will also estimate whether the hiring of the foreign worker may have a positive or neutral impact on the Canadian labour request. Substantiation must generally be handed that there are no good workers in Canada available to do the job. However, the foreign worker can also go ahead and submit a work permit operation to Immigration, Deportees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), If a positive or neutral LMIA is granted.

Nationally, Canada is passing labour shortages across the country with over job vacuities. This is performing in federal and provincial governments easing their regulations to enable employers to retain further foreign gift to condense the Canadian labour request. In early April, the Canadian government relaxed its TFWP rules in response to the country’s historically low severance rate and historically high job vacancy rate.

Canada’s unemployment rate stands at 5.3 per cent, the smallest on record.
