Main Duties

This group performs some or all of the following duties :

Furniture and fixture assemblers

  • Using hand and power tools, prepare, sand, and trim wooden furniture and fixture pieces.
  • Using hand and power tools, assemble wooden or metal furniture and fixture parts to make subassemblies and full products.
  • Assemble subassemblies or entire furniture products from a variety of parts made of wood, metal, plastic, cane, or other materials.
  • Dowels or other supports can be used to reinforce assembled furniture and fixtures.
  • Install hardware on furniture and fixtures, such as hinges and clasps.

Furniture and fixture inspectors

  • Inspect subassemblies and final items for adherence to quality requirements in the furniture and fixture industry.
  • Make a note of any damaged parts or items that need to be repaired.
  • Make small fixes and modifications.
  • Keep track of the information about the products you’ve inspected.

    • On-the-job training is provided.
    • Experience as a labourer in the same company may be required.
