Job Description:

  • Activities directly involved in maneuvering, routing, and tracking transport vehicles, aircraft, or railroad cars.
  • Plan, organize and manage subordinates to ensure work is completed and meets company standards.
  • Conduct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and implement procedures related to transportation as well as company revenue and customer service goals.
  • Organize periodic repair and maintenance of means of transport.
  • Complying with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
  • Promoting safe work activities by conducting safety audits, and attending company safety meetings.
  • Making sure vehicles are properly maintained
  • Inspecting vehicles
  • Arranging repairs and routine maintenance
  • Ensuring that all drivers and operators have the correct, up to date qualifications
  • Reducing the risk of vehicle overloading
  • Maintaining and completing accurate records
  • Plan and supervise the shipments from production to the end-user
  • Schedule daily and weekly routes
  • Coordinate with Warehouse Workers to ensure proper storage and distribution of products
  • Monitor and report on transportation costs
  • Ensure shipping documents are properly filed
  • Report maintenance and repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipment
  • Research and suggest cost-effective shipping methods
  • Conduct regular safety audits on equipment
  • Organize training sessions for employees (e.g. proper use of machines and handling of hazardous material)
  • Keep organized records of vehicles, schedules and completed orders
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and shipping legislation
  • Stay up-to-date with safety regulations

Job Requirements:

  • Proven work experience as a transportation manager, shipping director or similar roles
  • Solid knowledge of supply chain management
  • Experience in order picking and tracking
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Employee training and supervision skills
  • Problem solving ability
  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor of supply chain, logistics or related field is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business management, engineering or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Transport Manager in a similar industry.
  • Solid knowledge of the transport and logistics industry.
  • Experience working with union contracts and government regulations related to transportation.
  • Critical thinking skills and analytical knowledge.
  • Experience working with transportation management systems and warehouse management software, such as FreightPath and Infoplus.
  • Ability to work well with team members and handle stressful situations.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Good conflict resolution skills.

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Full time
  • Permanent
  • 40 hours per week
  • Day, Evening, Shift, Overtime, Morning

 

Salary: $26.48 – $38.94 per hour
